Pokémon Sword and Shield competitive players love this one bizarre Pokémon

Pokémon Sword and Shield’s first competitive tournament kicks off soon, and players vouch for a strange Pokémon who deals devastating physical damage (via Comicbook.com).

On their travels round the Galar region, players will pick up Fossils that they will give to a scientist along Route 6. She’ll combine a compatible set of two Fossils to create creatures from another time. Pokémon Sword players have a higher rate of finding Bird and Dino Fossils, whereas Pokémon Shield players are more likely to stumble across Drake and Fish Fossils. Gluing those two Fossils together gives Dracovish, the monster that competitive players are going nutty for.

It’s a Water and Dragon Type Pokémon (which Josh guessed correctly just by looking at it, so this is one more “well done, Josh.”). As a result, the dino is only weak to Dragon and Fairy Type attacks, which is formidable enough. But, it is Dracovish’s Fishious Rend that’s got the community buzzing with excitement. This move is exclusive to Dracovish and deals a base damage of 70, but this is doubled if it gets to move first in a battle. If the Pokémon has the Strong Jaw ability, that first attack could dole out a maximum base damage of 210.

Frightening. However, it’s an imperfect organism. Of course, it has the weakness to Dragon and Fairy Type attacks, and it’s kind of slow. Speedier Pokémon like Dragapult would be able to knock out Dracovish with ease. So, players who want to use the Fossil Pokémon should give it a Choice Band or Choice Scarf which increase their Power and Speed stats respectively. Or, a Dracovish with an Adamant or Jolly Nature will buff its Attack or Speed value with no downsides: this Pokémon doesn’t use a Special Attack.

The “Galar Beginnings” competition will begin on December 6 and close on December 8. There’s still time to submit a team if you’re interested, and I’m sure we’ll see a lot of Dracovish there.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are out now for Nintendo Switch.
