The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics will arrive on PC and consoles next year, as announced by developer BonusXP and publisher En Masse Entertainment (via Go Nintendo).
The Dark Crystal is a dark fantasy adventure movie directed by Jim Henson and Frank Oz, and released in 1982. A prequel series that delves into the world of Thra was produced by and premiered on Netflix, and received critical acclaim. The next adaptation of Henson and Oz’s phenomenal work is a turn-based strategy game, titled The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics.
This game will play through and beyond the events of Netflix’s Age of Resistance, and offers “strategic depth for genre veterans” and “approachable” mechanics for rookies. It includes more than 50 unique turn-based campaign battles and will introduce totally new Thra stories, environments, and characters. “We’re particularly excited with how the characters from the show are turning out, as the team has been working hard to faithfully recreate major characters, including Aughra, the wise and ancient embodiment of Thra; the Chamberlain, the calculating and malicious Skeksis; and Deet, an unassuming caretaker of animals who is the key to the Gelfling’s hopes for rebellion,” said En Masse Entertainment product manager David Whitfield.
In addition, spontaneous game-changing events will trigger at random moments during combat encounters, and players will need to be flexible and level-headed to secure victory. The Gelfling forces will be bolstered with new allies using customisable skills and equipment. And, the developer and publisher hope that players get stuck into the story and backgrounds of the “five diverse territories” and Thra histories present in the game.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on February 4, 2020. Watch the launch date reveal trailer below.
